Education cuts place an impossible burden

The General Teaching Council of NI warns of a major impact of the education cuts on the future of Northern Ireland

The General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI), the professional body for all teachers, has warned of the impossible burden that proposed education cuts will place on teaching professionals in our schools and colleges and the future negative impact on the prospects of young people and the Northern Ireland economy.

Speaking ahead of a public rally at the Holiday Inn, Belfast on Thursday 18th December against the education cuts The GTCNI Registrar, Dr Carmel Gallagher said:

“Teaching professionals are the greatest asset within any education system.  This budget will put hundreds of jobs at risk and also severely undermine the ability of our schools and colleges to meet the needs of young people and the Northern Ireland economy.

“It is vital that everyone who cares about our education system makes it clear to our politicians that proposed education cuts will fundamentally damage the future of our children and young people, who are the future of this society and its economy.

“Failing to plan for and protect education now is tantamount to planning to fail the economic future of our young people and this society”.
