GTCNI Student Teacher Award 2013

The GTCNI Student Teacher Award 2013 for two outstanding OU graduates was presented on Saturday 11thMay 2013 

Isabel Kerr and Jordan Graham were presented the award by Dr Carmel Gallagher (Registrar, GTCNI).

John D’Arcy, the Director of The Open University in Ireland, said: "A degree ceremony is a very special occasion where students are formally recognised for their achievements in front of family and friends. Studying with the OU requires determination and self-discipline, as students manage their own schedules, often juggling academic work with a regular job and family commitments. We’re proud to celebrate their success on this inspiring day.”

Jordan Graham was awarded for achieving overall sustained excellence throughout the PGCE course. He excelled in every assessment throughout the course, in both the school experience assessments and the written assessment tasks.

Isabel Kerr was awarded the GTCNI Student Teacher Award 2013  for achieving an excellent result through exceptional determination and commitment to becoming a teacher. Despite a long period of illness which delayed her progress from level 2 to level 3. After overcoming her illness, she successfully completed the course and showed a high level of commitment to the staff and pupils at her schoolplacements.

155 Open University graduates in Northern Ireland received their degrees from Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Tim Blackman at the ceremony in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast.

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry was guest speaker at the awards ceremony.
