Joint Statement by the Teaching Councils for NI, Ireland, Scotland and Wales

The Teaching Councils of Northern Ireland,  Republic of Ireland, Scotland & Wales have today issued a joint statement supporting teachers and reinforcing the need for regulation in a time of flux.

Each of the Teaching Councils have agreed a common approach to the standards expected of teachers and hope that this commitment to high standards in teaching will have significant benefits for the learning of pupils.
Acknowledging that is a time of great change not only in society but in the understanding of the role of teachers across Europe.
The four Teaching Councils are committed to maintaining and helping to raise standards, while speaking as an advocate for high quality teaching.
The Councils have agreed that this is a good time to enshrine their partnership in a joint statement of intent, as the importance of supportive regulation of the profession comes to the fore.
