Sixteen pupils leave school

02/10/2008 :: Northern Ireland :: The Irish News

Parents who objected to a primary school being transformed to integrated status have withdrawn their children.

Education minister Caitriona Ruane last month approved a proposal by the North Eastern Education and Library Board (NEELB) to transform Ballymoney PS from the start of the next school year.

Parents backed the proposal for integrated status by a small majority while some governors voiced their opposition.

The school's principal has now revealed that since the announcement, 16 pupils have left.

An NEELB spokesman said the decision to change the school's status was made after consultation with governors and parents.
