The Microsoft Innovative Teacher Winner Announced

This year’s competition for the NI Innovative Teacher Forum Awards saw the highest standard of entries to date. Over the past 4 years the quality of submissions is a true testament to the standard of innovative teaching taking place in our schools.

This year’s winner and the Teacher going to Moscow to compete against teachers from 42 countries at the Microsoft European Education Forum 2011 is:

Christine Murphy-Gardner

“ICT Community Project”

Ballyclare HS, Ballyclare Northern Ireland

Christine will be representing Northern Ireland at this year’s Partners in Learning Innovative Education Forum in Moscow from March 22^nd-25^th 2011

Dr. Victor McNair- University of Ulster and 8 time Innovative Teacher Judge:

“I was impressed with Christine's innovative use of ICT to support the development of digital literacy in primary schools. The range of applications used to support the chosen topics demonstrated her ability to cross subject boundaries and take learning beyond the classroom. There was a lot of excitement and enthusiasm generated through this work but there was also a developmental structure whereby learners were provided with opportunities to develop skills that would, in turn, enhance their learning in the long-term. I liked the way she applied the five "E"s creatively in a real-world context. Through her work, her colleagues have been able to embed ICT more meaningfully in their teaching. That, for me, is a true measure of sustainability. “

"Congratulations to Christine and Ballyclare High School on their ICT Community Project. It clearly demonstrated the successful collaboration that is taking place across 14 schools. Learning through a wide range of ICT tools has been made fun, motivational, interactive and creative. The pupils’ work was truly impressive! This project showed how clear strategy and commitment has empowered pupils and their teachers. The use of online and emerging technologies in the classroom at KS1 and KS2 and between home and school helped strengthen the collaboration between all the pupils. Well Done!"

Congratulations to Christine but also to all of the Teachers who entered this year. It gets harder and harder to choose a winner with each passing competition. The level of innovation, commitment and work these teachers are bringing into their classrooms and to their students and wider communities are both inspirational and exciting.
