Movilla parents 'angry'

Parents of pupils at Movilla High School who have missed two weeks of classes have said they are angry they have been forced to intervene in the dispute.

Teachers at the Co Down school have been on strike in protest at having pay docked for refusing to teach a boy they claim assaulted a member of staff.

Some parents yesterday had talks with the South Eastern Education and Library Board (SEELB) and said they hoped the dispute would be resolved soon.

Parents had last week staged a protest against the strike outside the school, saying they were worried that their children's exam results may be affected.

They have now said they are considering taking legal proceedings against the NASUWT union if the strike continues.

It is understood the SEELB is considering different options if no resolution can be found during the half-term break.

One of these is thought to be moving children temporarily to different schools, although it is unclear how this would work in practice and the suggestion has been criticised by the NASUWT.
