News Release

The General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland has announced 11 new members who will serve on the Council for the next four years. They are as follows:

Nursery Education category

The Council received no valid nominations in this category and as a result a further Election will take place with the nomination period closing on the 17th July and the deadline for return of ballot papers is the 15th September.

Special School category

The Council received one valid nomination and Mrs Sally McKee was deemed elected.

Primary Education category

The Council received five valid nominations and the following candidates were deemed elected:

Mr Charles Glenn
Mr John Kerr
Ms Desiree Mules
Mr John McGrady
Mrs Thea Patton

Principal in Primary Education

The Council received two valid nominations and as a result of an election in this category Mrs Audrey Stewart was duly elected.

Secondary Education category

The Council received three valid nominations in this category and as a result the following three candidates were deemed elected:

Mrs Rosemary Barton
Mr Keith Smith
Mr Damian Walls

There are two remaining places left in the Secondary sector and as a result a further Election will take place with the nomination period closing on the 17th July 2006 and the deadline for return of ballot papers is the 15th September 2006.

Principal in Secondary Education category

The Council received one valid nomination and Mr Ivan Arbuthnot was deemed elected.

The first meeting of the new Council will take place in October 2006.
