Further Education Development Officer - Vacancy

Further Education (FE) Development Officer

Fixed-term contract or secondment* to 31 March 2014 
with potential for extension for 1-2 years.

Salary: Current salary + one additional increment 
up to
a maximum payable of £50K (NJC58
) 

The General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland is the independent, professional body for teachers. The Council is seeking to recruit a Development Officer to oversee consultation and development work with the statutory FE sector. Reporting to the Registrar and Senior Education Officer, the post holder will be required to plan and take forward a programme of consultation and engagement regarding the proposed extension of the Council’s registration and regulatory remit to the FE sector in Northern Ireland.

Essential Criteria*:

  • A relevant third level qualification.
  • At least 5 years middle management experience within the last 7 years of (either in a teaching or administrative role) within the Northern Ireland Further Education College sector to include: partnership working internally and externally, for example with trade unions and senior managers across the FE sector.
  • Detailed knowledge of the further education sector and in particular the qualifications profile of the workforce and the current and emerging FE policy environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and problem solving skills; adaptability and a focus on outcomes, and
  • An established network of contacts within the FE sector and a knowledge of database construction and analysis would be an advantage.
