The complexity of teaching in modern society requires staff to draw on educational research to promote quality classroom learning.  Professor Andrew Pollard, director of the Teaching and Learning Partnership Programme (TLRP), was speaking at the General Teaching Council’s Annual Lecture.

He referred to the ten fundamental educational principles that have emerged from TLRP research.  Prof Pollard argued that learning should help people to develop the intellectual, personal and social resources necessary to participate as active citizens and workers and also to flourish as individuals in a diverse and changing society.  This, he argued implied a broad view of learning in which equity and social justice are taken seriously.
