Who will have access to the information on the register?
Teachers:All teachers will have full access to the information held on their data record, and will be able to check and update it. Please contact the Registration Team for further details
Employers and Prospective Employers:It is the obligation of employers to ensure that a teacher is both “eligible to teach” and is registered with the GTCNI. The Council will, on request, provide employers and prospective employers with a detailed print-out on a registered teacher. This contains specific information about the registered teacher and his/her qualifications.
Employers and perspective employers requiring a detailed print-out should make a written request, on the organisation’s official paper, giving the following details:
Teacher’s Full Name and
School Employed at or
Date of Birth or
National Insurance Number or
Teacher Reference Number

General Public:
GTCNI will confirm, to a member of the public, whether a teacher is registered or not.

Disclosure of data to third parties:
GTCNI will guarantee the security of the information held on the Register, and will only share data with third parties if the conditions contained in Schedule 2 of the Data Protection Act (1998) have been fulfilled.
Anonymised data fall outside the scope of the Data Protection Act (1998). The GTCNI is therefore prepared to consider the provision of anonymised data to support external research provided that:
i.the research falls within the broad parameters of GTCNI's policy interests
ii.the request is manageable within the GTCNI's resources
iii.the help of the GTCNI is acknowledged in all relevant publications and
iv.data that has been supplied in an anonymous format must remain that way for the duration of the processing.
