General Teaching Council Northern Ireland

 

Commitee Membership

The Council has established a number of Standing Committees in order to deal effectively with a wide ranging programme of work. Every Council Member serves on at least one committee. At present the Committee structure is as outlined below, although it is envisaged that once the registration process has begun it will be necessary to convene a committee to look at operational aspects of regulation.
 

Committee Functions

The General Purposes and Finance Committee

Members:

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Operational Matters
  • Finance and Procurement
  • Staffing and Personnel
  • In-house Policy Issues

The Audit Committee

Members:

Rosemary Barton, Charles Glenn, Teresa Graham, Tony Lappin, Alistair Orr, Peter Scott

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of the Council's planning, processes and internal control systems
  • Approval and monitoring of the Council's Audit programme
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and guidance

The Policy Committee

Members:

Responsibilities:

  • Policy Development and Advice
  • Professional Code for Teachers
  • Standards of Teaching
  • Teacher Education and Professional Development

  • Registration Processes
  • Recruitment/Retention Issues (within the profession)
  • Regulatory Functions
