New Teacher Statistics Released

30-10-2008

The General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (the Council) has today released its third annual Digest of Statistics. The 'digest' is available to download from this website and a copy has been sent to all schools in Northern Ireland.

The 'digest' presents information extracted from the Register of Teachers, which is an important and unique data source. The information that the Council is able to hold on its 'Register' is determined by Schedule One of the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (Registration) of teachers (Northern Ireland) 2004.

The data selected for the 'digest' has a high level of accuracy and completeness. Included in this year are interesting comparative statistics on number of Teachers by age and gender and also the number of teachers by school management type.

The Council hopes that the 'digest' will provide an evidential basis to support and inform future educational policy decisions.
